Each year in February, America Online sponsors online information for Black History Month.

The proverbial food chain in the web universe goes something like this: AOL contacted NetNoir, an African-American online community; NetNoir contacted Marshall Arts, an art publishing company that sells reproductions of African-American art from the Harlem Renaissance period; Marshall Arts contacted me.

Working together with the folks at Marshall Arts, we assembled and structured information on the subject of the Harlem Renaissance. This information was then forwarded to NetNoir who in turn prepared materials for AOL.

The results were used for Black History Month during February 1996, 1997, and 1998.

My specific role in this project was creation of the Information Architecture.

Organized by Category of Medium and by Name of Individual, key figures in the Harlem Renaissance were briefly sketched.

Marshall Arts also wanted and needed to be represented, especially their services as a knowledgable resource in regard to that period in art history.

Striking a balance between education and advertising, we arrived at a relatively simple flow of information with access to the services of Marshall Arts.
